Hello there!
Summer Monsoon season has been in full swing, here in the
desert.
Everything is green and lovely. It's been several yers
since we've had a decent rainfall- we've needed it so
badly.
We've had many inches of rain at our place - much more than
Tucson. EARlier in the month, Tucson experienced the
highest recorded water levels in the Rillito River, ever.
It was dry a few days before and then it went over the
banks! This is such an event around here that people take
off work to go see the river actually running.
In Arizona dry creek beds are called washes. They are dry
10 months our of the year, but during the monsoons, they
can quickly become raging rivers or creeks. I live in the
mountains, up a long and rough dirt road, and the three
washes between our house and the highway have been running
consistently. We've had enough breaks between the rain that
we have been able to get out most of the time, but not
always.
The power has been out on and off for many days this
summer. When it is too rainy to take photos and there is no
power to use the computer, I get stalled a bit in my work.
It's been interesting... but I don't mind. I'll have lot of
days to work and only a few to enjoy the cooler weather and
green desert. I always have lots to do, with or without
power, so I'm still busy!
